Steel Joist
and Decking

New Millennium Building Systems
New Millennium Building Systems is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Steel Dynamics and the nation’s second largest producer of steel building components. The facilities fabricate steel building components for use primarily in low-rise non-residential buildings including commercial, industrial, and government construction. Its products include joists, girders and trusses, and steel decking. Its individual joist products include bowstring, arched, scissor, double-pitched, and single-pitched joists.
New Millennium serves the domestic construction market with its seven steel fabrication facilities spanning the continental U.S. Its first plant at Butler, Indiana, began production in 2000. A second plant in Lake City, Florida, started up in 2005. The former John W. Hancock operation in Salem, Virginia, was purchased as a part of SDI’s acquisition of Roanoke Electric in 2006. In 2010, SDI purchased three plants and other assets: Hope, Arkansas; Fallon, Nevada; and Juarez, Mexico.

The plants in Indiana, Florida, Virginia, and Arkansas also produce steel roof, form and composite floor decking. These plants gave us a national operating footprint to serve the entire U.S. construction market, as well as national accounts, such as large retail chains.

The acquisition of Consolidated Systems, Inc. decking assets in September 2015 further supported our growth strategy by enhancing New Millennium’s position as a leading North American provider of steel joists and deck.  It accelerated our growth and diversification into new steel deck products, as well as expanded our geographical coverage and increased our market share of steel decking.  Folding one of the acquired facilities–Memphis, Tennessee, into the New Millennium operations and re-positioning other acquired assets within our operations, increased our platform capabilities and strengthened our financial performance sustainability.

We achieved record shipments, record operating income, and record number of added national accounts in 2014, with a total of more than 481,000 shipped tons and an operating income of $52 million.
